Description

  • Henri Cartier-Bresson
  • Rue Mouffetard
  • gelatin silver print
large-format, signed in ink in the margin, 1954, printed later (Cartier-Bresson: Photographer, p. 141)

Condition

This print, on double-weight paper with a slightly textured surface, is in generally excellent condition. As is typical of Cartier-Bresson's later prints, scattered deposits of original retouching are visible in raking light. The margins are very lightly age-darkened, the corners are gently bumped, and the upper and lower margins are slightly rippled. There is some scattered, faint soiling on the reverse. 'Z 376' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil.
