oversized, warm-toned, annotated 'Photograph by Lewis W. Hine / Hastings-on-Hudson, N. Y.' in ink on the reverse, circa 1905, probably printed in the 1920s
Provenance
Originally from the collection of Allen H. Eaton (1878-1982), a trustee of New York's Ethical Culture School, and an employee of the Russell Sage Foundation, where Hine had an important exhibition of his photographs in 1929
Condition
This luminous, early, large-format print is on warm-toned, lightly-textured, double-weight paper. It is in generally excellent condition. The print is trimmed to the image, and there is minor edge chipping and the corners are bumped. The upper left corner is slightly yellowed. When viewed under raking light, there are a few, scattered areas of retouching (likely original), primarily in the lower right quadrant.
There is a small amount of soiling on the reverse.
When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
