Description
- Peter Beard
- 'Lion Eating a RAUSCHENBERG Dead Ele in "Starvo" 1975'
- gelatin silver print
a unique object, hand-colored, reduction and numerical notations in crayon and ink, signed, titled, dated, and annotated 'Box 4191 Nbi' in ink and with small labels in the margin, mounted, framed, 1975, probably printed later
Condition
Although this print has not been examined out of the frame, it appears to be in generally excellent condition. As with other hand-worked objects by this photographer, there are several small creases that likely occurred during the creation of this object. In raking light, a few arrow and numerical-shaped impressions are visible overall, as well as scattered matte deposits of indeterminate nature. The margin corners are bumped and creased, and the emulsion is abraded at the upper right edge. A heavy strip of paper is adhered to the upper edge of the image.
There are several numerical notations in orange crayon and blue ink in the margins as well as stickers traditionally utilized for indicating cropping. There is a crease at the lower right corner that does not appear to break the emulsion.
A thin border strip of excess mounting tissue is visible around the print. There are a few light-brown fox marks on the mount.
