- gelatin silver print
signed, titled, and dated in ink in the margin, numerical notations in pencil on the reverse, 1955, printed later (The Americans, no. 53)
Condition
This print, on double-weight paper, is in generally very good condition. As is visible in the catalogue illustration, there is a 1/2-inch thin black line at the center of the image. This is a feature of the printing of the negative and not a deposit on the print. Upon close examination in raking light, a thin, approximately 6-and-1/2-inch line is barely discernible in the upper right quadrant, and some scattered small deposits, possibly retouching, are visible.
The left and right margin edges are softly rippled, and the margin corners are bumped and creased. There is a 2-and-3/4-inch linear crease which appears to break the emulsion in the lower left margin; this crease has been reinforced on the reverse. There is also a circular adhesive remain at the lower right corner on the reverse and a cluster of stray graphite marks at the center.
The following are written in an unidentified hand in pencil on the reverse: '8 - 242 [242 crossed out],' '196,' and '145.'
