- gelatin silver print
oversized, warm-toned, annotated 'Photograph by Lewis W. Hine / Hastings-on-Hudson, N. Y.' in ink on the reverse, circa 1905, probably printed in the 1920s (Steinorth, p. 35)
Provenance
Originally from the collection of Allen H. Eaton, a trustee of New York's Ethical Culture School, and an employee of the Russell Sage Foundation, where Hine had an important exhibition of his photographs in 1929
Condition
This early, large-format print is on warm-toned, lightly-textured, double-weight paper. It is in generally very good condition. The print is trimmed to the image, and there is very minor wear to each corner. A few areas of retouching can be seen under raking light, primarily at the lower right corner where a tear has been expertly repaired.
There is faint discoloration along the lower edge, with corresponding, uneven age-darkening and soiling on the reverse.. There is also a faint tideline along the upper edge on the reverse of the print.
