Condition
The canvas has not been lined. There is a small 1.5 by 1cm tear in the centre of the lower edge, as visible in the catalogue illustration and there are faint stretcher marks visible along the four framing edges. Ultra-violet light reveals areas of old residual varnish which make the surface quite difficult to read. Scattered spots of cosmetic retouching are visible throughout, notably in the orange dress of the lady sitting to the left,in the dress of the girl playing the harp, and in the floor in the lower right corner. The picture could benefit from some restoration to the aforementioned tear but it is otherwise in fairly good condition.
Presented in an original empire gilt frame.
