Catalogue Note
This is an exceptional example of traditional German folk-art. Such figures represent a supervisor ("Obersteiger") of the silver-mines in the Schneeberg region of Saxony and were traditionally offered as Christmas gifts. Similar figures can be found in the Museum für Bergmannische Volkskunst housed in the magnificent rococo Bortenreiterhaus in Schneeberg, Saxony.
