each with square lobed and stepped top above a foliate frieze, supported by fluted columnar angles flanking sanded-ground panels, on a stepped foliate plinth and square base
Provenance
Frederick William Hervey, 1st Marquess of Bristol (created Marquess in 1826, died in 1859) and possibly supplied for either Ickworth in Suffolk or his London House in St. James's;
thence by descent through the 1896 marriage of Lady Alice Hervey, daughter and co-heir of the 3rd Marquess of Bristol, to Sir Hylton Joliffe, 3rd Baron Hylton, Ammerdown Park, Somerset

Condition
A highly unusual and intriguing pair of pedestals in good condition, with some movement along the lines of construction. The gilding is atmospherically distressed but in stable condition. With some minor losses and wear, commensurate with age and use.
