Condition

overall good condition apart from minor surface scratches. some replacement nuts. movement currently functioning but not guaranteed by Sotheby's. would benefit from professional care.

Catalogue Note

Alexandre Magnin, bijoutier, naquit à Genève en 1786, fils de François Magnin et Jeanne-Françoise Girod. Il utilisa ce poinçon pour la première fois vers 1812, avant de devoir le faire enregistrer de nouveau vers le 23 Novembre 1815 (par erreur sous le nom d’André). Il mourut jeune en 1830 et son atelier, sis au 45 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, fut repris par sa veuve  Noée Fanely Gentil et leur fils Charles. Ce dernier s’installa à son propre compte par la suite, fabricant de boîtes en or.
