Overall, the condition of the ivory is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is particular dirt in the crevices. There is minor stable splitting to the ivory consistent with the material, notably to the proper left cheek and the man's torso, to the perizonium at the front and to the back on the proper left side, to the centre at the back, and to the right foot at the back. The arms are carved separately and stable joints are visible. There is some yellowing to the ivory in areas, notably at the back. There are two small ivory plugs to the shoulders at the back, and a small rectangular ivory insert to the proper left shoulder at the front. The nipples are carved separately and the proper right nipple is lost. There are two small darkened dents to the proper right calf at the back, which may have naturally occurred in the ivory. Four fingers of the proper left hand and one finger of the proper right hand are carved separately. There is a small area of dark staining to the proper left lower arm at the back. There are holes to the hands and feet.
