Description

  • Pendant cross
  • rock crystal, with enamelled gold mounts
  • Southern Italian, 17th century

Condition

Overall, the condition of the pendant is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is particular dirt to some of the crevices. There are losses to the enamelling, including to some of the blue enamel in the lozenges and to some of the green enamel at the terminals. The pendant was probably once mounted with pearls, now lost, as suspension hoops survive. There are naturally occurring inclusions in the rock crystal.
