Description
- Immaculata (Virgin Immaculate)
- gilt and polychromed limewood
- Austrian or Southern German, mid-18th century
Condition
Overall the condition of the sculpture is good, with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There are a few minor losses, notably to the Virgin's proper left big toe and to the fingers on the putto's proper left hand. There is minor stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material, notably to the orb. There is minor evidence of past worming, in particular to the top of the Virgin's head and to the back. A stable, probably original, joint is slightly visible at the drapery on the proper right side beside the putto; there are also joints around the putto's legs. There is wear to the polychromy and rubbing to the gilding at the high points; there are particular losses to the polychromy of the putto. There is a small metal hook at the back.
