Description

  • Two Sgabelloni
  • respectively partially gilt walnut and partially gilt chestnut, the latter a very finely executed circa 1900 revival
  • Italian, Rome, 17th century and later

Condition

Overall the condition of the sgabelloni is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. As stated in the cataloguing, one dates to the early 17th century, while the other is a later copy, which has been skilfully worked to match the age and wear of the original example. The gilding of the old sgabellone has been partially refreshed. There are a few minor restorations to the old example; and the central scroll on the decoration at the top is carved separately. There is some general wear, including some warping to the wood and minor worming. There is minor evidence of past worming in areas.
