Description

  • Rome, a view of the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

H. Ekman (d. 1961) (according to a label on the reverse);
Gothenburg and Bohus County Civil Defense Associations, Sweden, by 1 December 1961 (according to a label on the reverse).

Condition

The canvas has been lined around all four edges, but otherwise remains unlined. The paint surface is dirty and the varnish is slightly discoloured. There is visible, slightly discoloured retouching to an old fold line or stretcher mark, running the width of the canvas, approx. 5 cm. from the lower edge. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals spot retouching on the left of the temple façade, in the lower left corner, and in the sky, centre right. There is retouching to an L-shaped scratch, measuring approx. 4 by 4 cm., centre right, and to a small patch of sky above it, as well as to the figure with a stick, to the right of the temple. In overall good condition. Offered in a modern, gold-painted wooden frame.
