Condition
The following condition report is provided by Hamish Dewar who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: The panel is cradled. There are several distortions to the support but the painting is
relatively stable. There is an overall pattern of craquelure and the paint surface has a relatively even varnish layer. There are a few vertical repaired splits and lifting at the edges. There are several small paint losses to the gold background at the upper edge, and minor wear through the figures. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows scattered retouchings including a vertical retouching above the centre of the lower edge. Overall the painting is in fairly good condition.
