Condition

The following condition report is provided by Hamish Dewar who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: The painting with the cow and milkmaids appear to be unlined. The painting with the goat appears to be lined. There is a raised craquelure pattern visible in both of the paintings, predominantly in the sky. The paint surfaces have relatively even varnish layers and appear to be stable. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows the varnish layers to be discoloured and the landscape with the goat to have retouchings around the framing edges, in the sky in the craqulure pattern and a large area in the sky. The painting with the cow shows a large area of retouching in the top right corner of the sky, around the lower horizontal framing edge and scattered retouchings in the sky. Overall the paintings are in relatively good condition. Both paintings are framed.
