Condition
The following condition report is provided by Hamish Dewar who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: There are two horizontal lines of wooden buttons on the reverse of the panel securing two joins or splits in the panel. The joins may be slightly unstable. The two horizontal joins or splits are visible on the paint surface and there are some small paint losses corresponding to these joins or splits. The paint surface has a slightly uneven and discoloured varnish layer, some surface scratches and abrasions and some frame rubbing is visible. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows a discoloured varnish layer, two horizontal bands of retouching covering the joins and other small areas of retouching including within the face of Cyparissus. Overall the painting is in reasonably good condition. The work is framed.
