Condition
The uncradled panel has been extended along the upper and side margins; these additions measure 1 - 2cm. in width. There are no major damages visible and the varnish is clear and even. The background has been strengthened and there is a very minor degree of wear in some of the lighter flesh tones, but the ruff, jacket and palette of the artist all remain in good condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a patch of old restoration to a vertical fracture, running the length of the panel, 2in. from the left margin. There are a handful of other scattered retouchings. In overall fair condition.
Offered in a Dutch style black bevelled frame with a gold sight slip in fair condition.
