Anonymous sale, Amsterdam, Christie's, 16 November 2005, lot 50, where purchased by the present owner.

The canvas has been relined, the paint surface is dirty and the varnish is quite discoloured. There is evidence of wear in some areas of the painting, particularly upper centre. There are discoloured retouchings along all four margins, and in several local areas: in the body of the man to the left of the screen; to a couple of the dancing figures, left (and beneath their feet); in the figures sitting at the table to the left of the bride; to the arms and legs of figures in the foreground, left; in the body of the soldier, lower right; and in the upper right corner. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals these retouchings, but little other intervention. In overall fair condition.
