Condition

The canvas has a firm relining, the paint surface is dirty, and the varnish is thick and discoloured. There is a loss in the paint surface, lower left, in the planks of wood by the cottage, measuring less than 1 by 1 cm. (visible in the catalogue illustration). Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching along the upper and right margins, scattered spot retouching in the foreground, and some strengthening to the shadows in the planks of wood. In overall fair condition.
