The following condition report is provided by Hamish Dewar who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: The painting appears to be lined and has a glossy varnish layer. The paint surface is stable although there is a very small paint loss on the upper left vertical framing edge. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows different stages of retouching, mostly around the framing edges, around the foot of the male figure, and spots and lines on the faces and bodies of the figures. There are other scattered retouchings. Overall the painting is in reasonably good condition. The work is framed.
