Description
- North Netherlandish School, circa 1520
- The Circumcision (recto); The Gathering of Manna (verso)
- oil on panel, with an addition of 5 cm. to the upper edge, unframed
Condition
The following condition report is provided by Hamish Dewar who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: The panel is double sided. There appears to be an extension on the upper edge. The paint surfaces are discoloured and have uneven varnish layers. Old retouchings are visible in natural light. There are some small unstable areas of paint on the verso. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows the varnish layers to be opaque and discoloured and scattered retouchings throughout the composition. Overall the recto appears to be in better condition than the verso but both are in reasonably good condition.
