Condition
The panel is cradled. The paint surface is secure and stable, with a clear and even varnish. There are no major damages visible to the naked eye and the painting appears to be in overall good condition.
Inspection under ultra violet light reveals a horizontal restored old surface crack 4 inches in length above the stump of an old tree at the right margin, and a scattering of very minor retouchings scattered throughout - a cluster of in the dark tones of the bottom left corner appear to be mainly there to masque some of the craquelure.
This lot is offered in a carved giltwood frame in good condition, with only a handful of losses.
