The following condition report is provided by Hamish Dewar who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: The canvas is lined. The paint surface is secure. The paint surface has an uneven varnish layer. There is a pattern of craquelure which appears stable. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows scattered retouchings throughout the composition including very small spots and lines within the sitter's flesh tones and dress and retouchings close to the framing edges and background. Overall the painting is in reasonably good condition. The work is framed.
