Circle of Giuseppe Mazzuoli, called Bastarolo

We are grateful to Dr Emilio Negro for suggesting an attribution for the present work to an artist in the circle of Bastarolo. See, for example, on a much larger scale, the series of canvases depicting scenes from the Life of Christ by Bastarolo, in the Pinacoteca Nazionale, Ferrara.¹ This work is closely related to the painting in the Blanton Museum of Art, University of Texas, Austin, attributed to Hans Rottenhammer the Elder.²
