Condition
The support consists of a single panel, with a small wooden slip adhered to each edge for framing purposes. The panel is flat and uncradled and the paint surface is stable with a clear varnish. There is an old clean split running the length of the panel, 3 1/2 inches from the right margin, that has been expertly restored.
Inspection under ultra violet light reveals a very thin and discrete line of retouchings along this damage, as well as some restorations at the left corner of the stone ledge and to a small old damage to the centre right of the ledge. It seems possible that there is a strengthening 'wash' to the dark tones of the background particularly to the left side of the panel, but this is hard to make out through the varnish. The flowers and the vase are free of any intervention and are in lovely condition. Offered in a simple brown wood Dutch style frame in good condition.
