Condition
The copper plate is flat and stable, and supported in the frame by an oval wooden panel. The paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals very few, tiny pinprick retouchings at the bottom of the sky, left, but otherwise no apparent intervention. In overall excellent condition.

Catalogue Note
Though long thought to be a work by Izaak van Oosten, this high-quality wooded landscape seems in fact likely to be of the preceding generation of Flemish landscape painters. The figures come close to the work of Sebastian Vrancx.
