Description
- Gerrit Dou, early 18th century
- Young girl drawing water from a well, with fruit and vegetables, a landscape beyond
- oil on oak panel, with an unidentified collector's wax seal on the reverse
Condition
The panel is uncradled, flat and stable. The paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals very small areas of retouching just at the rim of the tankard, right; at the hem of the girl's skirt; and in the dark interior of the well by the rope attached to the jug. The painting appears to be otherwise untouched, and is in overall excellent condition.

1. For a list of many of these versions, see O. Naumann, Frans van Mieris the Elder, Doornspijk 1981, vol. II, pp. 11–13.
