Catalogue Note

Cotehele House is positioned on the Cornish side of the river Tamar and has been owned by the Edgecumbe family for almost six hundred years. It is celebrated as one of the least altered medieval houses in Britain. Muller, it would seem, visited the house in the summer of 1844, as part of a two-month expedition to England's south-west. Tragically he was to die the following year, at the age of only thirty-three.
