Catalogue Note

The village of Alfriston is situated on the river Cuckmere, three miles north-east of Seaford in East Sussex. De Wint painted several other views of this county. In 1837 he presented Twlight – Felphan, Sussex at the annual Society of Painters in Water-Colour Exhibition. There was a View of Arundel in his Studio sale of 18501 and a View of Pulborough that was shown by Vokins of London at their 1886 Centenary Exhibition.2 Hastings Museum owns the watercolour View of Pevensey Castle, while Fishing Boats at Hastings is in the collection of the Nottingham Castle Museum.
