Catalogue Note

This collection of views of Lincoln was drawn by Grimm between the middle of July and end of September 1784. He had been invited there by his friend and most important patron Sir Richard Kaye, who, in 1783, had been appointed Dean of Lincoln. Grimm had been patronised by Sir Richard since the early 1770s who was interested in all things ‘curious.’1 Kaye was a trustee of the British Museum and he bequeathed much of his collection to that institution upon his death.
