  • Red chalk

Provenance

Jonathan Richardson Sen. (L. 2184) his mount, attribution and shelf marks;
John, Lord Northwick (1770-1859),
by inheritance at Northwick Park,
to Capt. E.G. Spencer-Churchill,
sale, London, Sotheby's, 24 November 1919

Condition

Laid down on Richardson mount. There a few small holes in the sheet: one located near the upper left corner, one just above his eye (has been filled in/made up), and one on his nose. There are some light brown stains, a group towards the lower part of his neck and some in the lower right corner. A tiny nick in the sheet at the lower right corner. Red chalk still strong and overall image good.
