Condition
Laid down on an old sheet of paper. There is a small nick to the lower centre edge of the sheet and areas of light brown staining and surface dirt throughout. The iron gall ink appears to have eaten away at an area of the lower right quarter of the sheet, as well as the thigh and chest of the executioner. Inspite of this the image remains strong throughout.

Catalogue Note
An attribution to Francesco Allegrini has previously been suggested for this work, though the handling of the pen and ink medium appears somewhat more accomplished than one might expect to see in a comparable sheet by this artist.
