Condition

Laid down on paper and hinge mounted to a modern mount. There is a very slight vertical crease down the right edge and a small blemish to the upper left corner and the tricorn hat in the lower right quarter. Otherwise in very fine condition with the medium fresh and vibrant throughout.

These heads were engraved by Delpech, in reverse and with some differences, for one of the series of lithographs entitled Les Grimaces (see H. Harisse, Oeuvre de Boilly, Lithographies: Les Grimaces, 1823-28, vol. I, no. 10.

Etienne Breton kindly confirmed the attribution prior to the 1999 sale.
