Condition

(i) The canvas has not been lined. There is some scattered paint flaking along the framing edges. Ultra-violet light reveals areas of uneven varnish and small spots of cosmetic retouching notably along the lower right edge. Presented unframed. (ii) The canvas has not been lined. There are scattered spots of paint flaking notably to the left of the canvas and along the upper edge, and fine craquelure in the lower edge. Ultra-violet light reveals areas of uneven fluorescence which make the painting surface difficult to read, and small scattered lines of cosmetic retouching in the grass and trees. Presented unframed. (iii) Ultra-violet light reveals some very fine lines of retouching along the left and upper edge. The work is otherwise in good condition and ready to hang. Presented in a gilt decorative frame. (iv) The canvas has not been lined and is very wavy throughout. Ultra-violet light reveals scattered spots of cosmetic retouching notably in the sky, trees and in the rocks along the lower edge. Presented in a decorative gilt frame. (v) Oil on canvas laid on board. There are scattered spots of paint flaking, notably in the sky and in the field. Ultra-violet light reveals uneven fluorescence due to old residual varnish. The picture would benefit from restoration. Presented in a simple gilt frame. (vi) The panel is slightly convex in the upper right corner but offers otherwise a stable support. There is a pattern of hairline craquelure throughout the composition and some minor rubbing along the framing edges. The picture could benefit from some cleaning if desired. Ultra-violet light reveals areas of uneven fluorescence and very small spots of retouching along the framing edges. Presented in a decorative gilt frame. (vii) The canvas has not been lined. There is some fine hairline craquelure throughout. Ultra-violet light reveals a layer of thick varnish and lines of infilling retouching in the aforementioned craquelure, notably in the man's legs and left arm, and some strengthening in the date on the stele. The picture is otherwise in good condition and ready to hang. Presented in a dark wooden frame.
