Catalogue Note
This object appears in Man Ray’s handmade album Objects of My Affection, assembled in 1944, with the following description: “No more improbable than preserved egg, but admittedly less edible.”
This unlikely combination of two objects, one a wooden replica of an egg from nature and the other a metal rod proposes sexual connotations, symbolising fertility. References to domestication remain up to the spectator’s imagination. Man Ray married Juliet in 1946, though never had children.
