Condition

The canvas is original and appears sound. There are four very small pushes to the canvas to the lower left corner, to the centre of the lower edge, to the upper part of the left edge and to the centre of the right edge with some minor associated loss in the lower left corner. There are two further small spots of loss to the centre of the right edge and to the figure's blouse at the centre of the bottom edge. There is some very minor frame abrasion visible along the extreme edges, including along the lower edge to the lower left corner. There are some very fine lines of reticulation and craquelure in places, particularly to the dark green pigment, which has resulted in a few extremely tiny flecks of loss, and there are a few small specks of studio detritus to the work. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in overall good condition. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of fluorescence to the lower left corner, to the left part of the extreme lower edge, and to the bottom part of the extreme right edge. The work is presented in a simple carved wooden frame with a gilt rebate. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
