Condition

The board is very slightly bowed, but otherwise appears sound. There are two very small losses to the extreme edges at the upper left and lower right corners as well as some frame abrasion to the extreme edges, most noticeably to the centre of the left edge, with some old frame paint residue. There are some very fine lines of reticulation in places, and a fine vertical surface scratch to the centre of the left side of the composition. There is some studio detritus, surface dirt and the varnish appears to be slightly discoloured, and the work might benefit from a light clean. Subject to the above, the work appears in good overall condition. Examination under UV light reveals a milky varnishing making the work difficult to read. The work is presented in an ornate gilt carved wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
