Condition
The panel is sound, with an extremely minor bowing. There is a thin line of gilt paint from a previous frame, approximately 1.5cm long, to the right vertical edge, and a very fine line of craquelure in line with the grain of the panel in the top right corner. There is a tiny scratch to the gray pigment in the upper left quadrant. There is a very light layer of surface dirt to the work. Subject to the above the work is in very good overall condition.
Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a layer of milky varnish and an area of retouching to the face of the figure in the foreground and a small spot towards the lower horizontal edge.
The work is held within an ornate gilt composition frame.
