Exhibited

Newlyn, Newlyn Art Gallery, Roger Hilton A Centenary Celebration, 29th January - 2nd May 2011.

Condition

Unexamined out of frame, although the entire work is visible in the frame - where it is laid onto a sheet of card which is in turn laid onto a linen backing. The work is on an uneven sheet, torn from a larger sheet, as was customary for the artist at this stage of his career. The artist has painted all the way to the edge of this sheet, including over a jagged tear in the lower centre. There are two pin holes in all four corners - again as is common to the artist's technique at stage. The unpainted areas of the sheet have sporadic surface dirt, most notably to the right above the line of grey paint and isolated spots of surface matter to the left. The sheet is overall in very good condition for a work on paper by Hilton from the late stages of his career. The work is float mounted and housed in a painted wooden frame, held under glass. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
