Catalogue Note

Jeram Patel was one of the founding members of the Group 1890, where together with eleven other artists, including Jagdish Swaminathan (see lot 31) and Himmat Shah (see lot 67), set out to develop and establish an indigenous modern Indian art. The group members would create works of art emphasised colour and mysticism, all while paying homage to the Indian fold art tradition.  Patel has an cohesive retrospective that is currently on until the 20th December 2016 at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, until December, entitled Jeram Patel: The Dark Loam between Memory and Membrane.
