Description

  • 56,5x94x33 cm.
la fronte suddivisa in otto cassetti ciascuno decorato da due riquadri in pietra paesina, ai lati di uno sportello centrale tra due pilastri che sostengono un timpano con tiretto, un altro in basso, cornici a onde, nicchia a specchi con colonnine e pavimento a scacchiera in ebano e avorio, piedi in forma di leone

Condition

The top has light horizontal cracks mainly on the corners, the longest one is 50cm. A minor loss on the low left frame of the central door for 2.5cm. A crack below the frame of the low right drawing. On the back, two stamps marked with the monogram "OP" separated by a snake within a rectangle. The back is loose on the lower joint, with losses of material.

Catalogue Note

Questo stipo evidenzia quanto la pietra paesina, detta anche "lineato d'Arno" proveniente dalla Toscana centro meridionale, fosse apprezzata nelle wunderkammers dell'Italia settentrionale.
Le placche di questo stipo sono simili a quelle che decorano il monetiere appartenuto al Canonico Manfredo Settala, celebre per la sua collezione di pietre bizzarre appartenute alla sua famosa wunderkammer, conservato nella Pinacoteca Ambrosiana a Milano e pubblicato da A. Gonzàlez-Palacios in Mosaici e pietre dure. Firenze, Paesi Germanici, Madrid, Milano 1982, p. 34.
