Description

  • 93x85x59 cm.
ciascuna con piano di forma mossa, il grembiale asimmetrico, con decorazione a rocailles e rami di foglie con ghiande, le gambe a doppia voluta riunite da traversa, piedi a ricciolo.

Condition

Marble tops: Both with minor substitutions of the veneering segments on the edge, one filled with stucco for 9x1 cm. Both feet with minor wood worming and minor losses, normal for the age. The joint is visible with some minor traces of re-gilding. Minor chips and losses on the feet as normal for the age. One console with a vertical crack on the left leg with a loss of material for 1.5x0.5 cm. Minor losses to the gilding on the front and the back, above the left leg. The other console has an horizontal crack on both corners, left and right, below the top. Each with an inventory paper from the collection "n.56"

Questa coppia di consoles ad angolo può essere messa in rapporto con alcuni tavoli da parete eseguiti per i Doria Pamphilj, conservati nel Palazzo di famiglia e illustrati da A. Gonzàlez-Palacios in Il Mobile in Liguria, Genova 1996, p. 173, figg. 202-203.
Questi tavoli sono inoltre un esempio dell'uso genovese di impreziosire l'arredo con piani in marmo incorniciati da un ciglio in bronzo dorato, eseguiti a Roma.
I piani della nostra coppia di consoles sono impiallacciati in verde antico cavato presso la città di Atrace in Tessaglia e che nella antica Roma fu tenuto in grandissimo pregio per la sua bellezza e rarità.
