Description

- Still life of flowers and an overturned jug
- signed lower left: Joannes.Fyt
- oil on canvas
Provenance
Anonymous sale, London, Christie's, 7 July 1978, lot 120.
Condition
Canvas has a glue relining that is firm and stable. The painting reads very well and presents a strong image. The flowers and objects have been well retained and detail remains very good. There is some thinness noticeable in the browns of the background, but this is not too distracting. Under UV light: there is some retouching along right side in background and on melon. A few others are scattered in background but the objects and flowers look good.
Offered in a plain brown wood frame.

Catalogue Note
We are grateful to Fred G. Meijer of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie for confirming the attribution to Jan Fyt, on the basis of photographs. Meijer compares this to two similar works by Fyt in particular, a 1659 rectangular composition in a Private collection, as well as a canvas sold London, Christie's, 9 July 2015, lot 198 (as Attributed to Fyt, now considered to be by Fyt in full).1
