Catalogue Note
This fascinating allegorical scene is characterized by many symbols associated with fire. It includes two guns, a magnifying glass, a metal brazier topped with Cupid holding a torch as well as a burning heart, and a magnifying glass near a smoking rope. In the distance one can see a town under siege, an erupting volcano, and a sky illuminated with a bolt of lightening.
