Description
- Carlo Bonavia
- Two Arcadian river landscapes with waterfalls and figures in the foreground
- signed lower left corner: C. (….) (vi?)a / P.
- a pair, both oil on canvas
Condition
The canvases appear to be unlined and the paintings are presentable. The paint surface in the foreground areas in both is very well retained with nice impasto in the figures, trees, rocks etc. The sky area and clouds are generally thinner on both, perhaps having been more thinly painted to begin with. Examination under UV light reveals retouching and inpainting of craquelure in sky of both pictures; there is some retouching in the foliage of the painting with a large tree at left side. The foreground areas on both look good with only a few very small retouches here and there. These retouches have been well applied and the paintings can be hung as is.
Offered in carved and gilt wood frames.
