Description

  • Gerard Ter Borch
  • The introduction (an officer making his bow to a lady)
  • oil on canvas
  • 30 x 26 inches

Condition

Painting overall appears to be in good condition. The canvas has an old glue relining and the support is stable. The paint surface is good beneath a clear varnish, areas of the background have sunk a little and become thin but the primary figures remain sharp and clearly defined. Inspection under UV is impeded somewhat by the varnish which fluoresces green, though there appears to be some strengthening to the background. The is minor retouching such as to the doublet of the musician at , the headscarf of the background lady and more minor retouching to the hair of the bowing gentleman and the edges of his armor and inside of his hat. The painting requires no further restoration and is ready to hang in its present state. Offered in a simply carved black wood frame.
