Studio of Jacopo del Sellaio

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This work has not been restored for many years. There is no visible restoration, but the surface is very dull and opaque. There is a scratch along the profile of the face of the Madonna on the left and a small loss in her head. There is a good deal of abrasion and weakness to the paint layer and it seems that the hair, the bricks behind the Madonna and a few other areas have old retouches. Overall the painting will respond well to restoration.
