Catalogue Note
It has been suggested that the figures in this work are preparatory studies for one of Muller's paintings in Notre-Dame des Victoires in Paris, although a firm connection has thus far not been forthcoming. A closely comparable study depicting a Flying angel playing a lyre, also acquired from Galerie de Bayser in the 1990s, is in the British Museum.1
