Condition

Original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There is some light rubbing around the edges of the canvas, owing to the work being unframed. There is some scattered reticulation and craquelure, predominantly to the maroon pigment, with very slight losses to the centre of the right vertical edge. There is also some craquelure to the black pigment towards the lower edge of the work. There is some light surface dirt in places, and some speckles of mould apparent towards the upper horizontal edge. Subject to the above the work appears to be in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals an uneven varnish layer. There are some small flecks of retouching to the left, upper and right edges of the work, which have been sensitively executed. There is also some slight fluorescence to some of the pigments, which appears to be inkeeping with the artist's materials. The work is unframed.
